America is Not Always Good in History

"We are becoming increasingly disappointed in the optimism of our leaders..." "The only rational way out is to negotiate, not as victors, but as an honorable people..."

Walter Cronkite said those words at the end of his television special about the Vietnam War. President Johnson watched this show and at the conclusion said that if he lost Cronkite, he had lost America. The President later chose not to seek re-election.

The wisdom of this statement is very typical Cronkite. I wish we had someone present with his wisdom.

I have seen some suggestions for withdrawal. One that catches my eye is withdrawal of British and American troops. These troops will be replaced by troops from other middle-Eastern countries. Then, as an honorable nation, we would apologize to the world for our attack and destruction.

It seems to me that America is supposed to be a very moral nation. Additionally, a good confession in this instance will let the the rest of the world know that we are loving and carrying.
